
The Society of Intensivists Bangladesh (SIB), an organization for ICU specialists, held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, February 26, at Dhaka Club in Dhaka. During the meeting, the first executive committee for the 2025-2026 session was formed.
Before the annual meeting of the organization, important topics related to intensive care, such as sepsis, antibiotic resistance, infections, etc., were discussed. The scientific session was addressed by Professor A.K. Kamrul Huda, Dr. Md. Tahsin Salam, Dr. Raihan Rabbani, and Dr. Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman Akash.
In the annual meeting, Professor A.K. Kamrul Huda was elected as the President, and Dr. Raihan Rabbani was elected as the General Secretary through a vote by the members present. During this time, a partial committee was formed, consisting of a 6-member advisory council, a 10-member executive committee, and a 10-member operational committee. This committee will work towards improving ICU services in the country through the development of ICU treatment systems, training, research, and enhancing international cooperation.
Congratulating the newly elected committee members, Professor A.K. Kamrul Huda said, “Our goal is to ensure the development of ICU services in the country, enhance the skills of doctors, and provide the highest quality intensive care services. This committee will work together to achieve our objectives.” Comprising the country’s leading ICU specialists, this committee will lead the organization for the next two years and work towards the advancement of ICU treatment in Bangladesh.
The inaugural session of the meeting was presided over by Professor Dr. Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, while the chief guest was Dr. Rizwanur Rahman, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services. Additionally, Professor Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at BSMMU, former Head of the Department of Anesthesia at Dhaka Medical College, Professor Dr. Mozaffar Hossain, and the current Head of the Department, Dr. Subrata Kumar Mondal, were present as special guests.
Scientific sessions at the meeting were presented by Professor A.K. Kamrul Huda, Dr. Md. Tahsin Salam, Dr. Raihan Rabbani, Dr. Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman Akash. Additionally, 9 advisory members and 4 speakers were honored with recognition crests for their outstanding contributions to the organization.
Wishing success to the Society of Intensivists Bangladesh, Mr. Abu Shahriar Zahedi, Managing Director of Radiant Business Consortium Limited, delivered a vote of thanks. He expressed his commitment to providing continuous support for the organization and highlighted Radiant's role in delivering high-quality and globally advanced pharmaceutical products to ensure better treatment for patients.
The members of the Society of Intensivists Bangladesh (SIB) hope that this new leadership will open new avenues in ICU treatment and accelerate the development of critical care medicine in Bangladesh.
