
In a landmark event, the Bangladesh Tourism Board and Sreemangal Upazila Administration have successfully organized the first-ever three-day Harmony Festival from January 10-12, 2025.
The festival, which took place from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm each day, was held at the scenic grounds of Kakiachhara Government Primary School, located near the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar District.
Designed to showcase the region’s rich heritage, communal harmony, and cultural diversity, the festival aims to promote tourism in the area. It featured a vibrant mix of cultural programs, exhibitions, and traditional performances from the region’s diverse ethnic communities.
Visitors from across Bangladesh flocked to Sreemangal to experience the event. Local tour operators took advantage of the occasion by offering affordable travel packages, encouraging tourism to this picturesque part of the country.
A highlight of the festival was the participation of various indigenous groups, including the Khasi, Garo, Manipuri, Tripura, Sabar, Kharia, Rikiasan, Baraik, Kanda, Rajbalwab, Bhuiyan, Santal, Orao, Gorait, Munda, Kurmi, Bhumij, Bunarji, Lohar, Ganju, Kara, and Teli communities. These groups exhibited their unique cultures through traditional dances, music, and artisanal crafts.
Md. Islam Uddin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sreemangal, shared his excitement, stating, "The festival featured 44 stalls offering local products, food, clothing, and lifestyle items. In addition, there were captivating cultural performances, dances, songs, and rituals that celebrated our diverse traditions. We have ensured comprehensive arrangements for the safety and enjoyment of all attendees, with local police, tourist police, and the upazila administration working together to maintain security and ensure a smooth experience."
The Harmony Festival not only celebrated the vibrant cultural tapestry of Sreemangal but also provided a significant boost to tourism in the region, drawing attention to its natural beauty and cultural richness.
