Golf, Friendship, and a New Light in Life

Golf entered my life quietly—without spectacle, without urgency—yet its impact has been profound. For most of my life, my world revolved around work, responsibilities, and carefully structured routines. I never imagined that a sport as calm and disciplined as golf would gently rewire my mindset, reshape my lifestyle, and enrich my circle of relationships. Today, golf is far more than a sport to me: it is a teacher of patience, a sanctuary of tranquility, and a bridge to a remarkable family—the Tiger Golf Club (TGC).

Reflections by Malaysia’s High Commissioner

Golf has long been more than a sport—it serves as a quiet bridge between people, ideas, and nations. In an exclusive conversation with Golf & Beyond held in Dhaka on 7 April 2026, H.E. Mohd Shuhada Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh, shared how golf supports diplomacy, strengthens professional relationships, and opens avenues for Malaysia–Bangladesh collaboration. Diplomacy is a demanding profession. While asking the envoy how golf helps him maintain balance, clarity, and perspective in his professional and personal life, he replied: \"Diplomacy demands constant attention, judgment, and balance. Golf offers me a space to reflect, recharge, and maintain perspective. Walking the course teaches patience, humility, and focus—qualities that are equally essential in diplomatic service. In many ways, golf keeps me grounded, both professionally and personally.\"

Kuakata’s Untapped Potential as a Golf Tourism Destination

At the southernmost edge of Bangladesh lies Kuakata, a rare coastal destination where visitors can witness both sunrise and sunset from the same vast sea beach. Known as the ‘Daughter of the Sea,’ this panoramic beach stretches nearly 30 kilometers along the Bay of Bengal, offering a unique natural setting. Despite its scenic beauty and growing tourism base, stakeholders believe Kuakata’s potential remains largely untapped—particularly in the emerging niche of golf tourism.

A Journey to Scotland: Embracing the Spirit of Golf at Its Birthplace

For golfers around the world, Scotland holds a sacred place as the birthplace of the game. In July 2025, I had the extraordinary privilege of experiencing this legendary land firsthand—a journey that became one of the most defining and enriching chapters of my golfing life. From the moment I arrived, there was a distinct sense of history in the air. The landscapes, the ever-changing weather, and even the rhythm of play felt deeply connected to the origins of golf. This was not merely a tour; it was an immersion into the very soul of the sport.

Health on the Fairway: Navigating Modern Challenges for Golfers

Golf is often described as a gentleman’s game—calm, measured, and graceful. Yet, from a medical perspective, it is a sport that places repetitive biomechanical stress on the body while simultaneously demanding high levels of mental focus and endurance. In my clinical experience as a physician, I have observed a growing number of golfers—both amateur and professional—presenting with injuries that are often preventable. These issues are rarely the result of a single incident; rather, they develop gradually over time due to improper technique, lack of conditioning, and inadequate recovery.
